What Is LFS Shield? The Freight Fraud Protection That Keeps the Carrier Alive
By Michael Thomas, Founder, Logistical Forwarding Solutions

Why we built LFS Shield
I've been in logistics for 25 years. I've watched good carriers, hardworking people with one or two trucks, lose everything over one bad load. Not because they were lazy. Because somebody lied to them better than they could check.
Scammers don't break in anymore. They log in. They copy a real broker's name, buy a look-alike web address, send a clean rate confirmation and wait for you to skip one step.
They tried it on us. A fake shipper came at LFS with a website that was eight days old, dressed up to look like a real company. It almost worked. LFS Shield caught it. You can read the whole story in how to spot a fake shipper scam.
"Scammers don't break in anymore. They log in."

That's why LFS Shield exists. Our mission is simple: keep the carrier alive.
What LFS Shield checks
LFS Shield is not a broker lookup and it's not a regular antivirus. Before you trust an email, open a file, accept a load, change a delivery or send documents for payment, it checks whether the people, the instructions, the files and the money trail make sense.
It follows the whole load, not just one name. For every load, LFS Shield tracks who posted it, who negotiated it, who signed the rate con, who hauled it and who's claiming the money. We call it the Transaction Identity Chain. It compares every handoff, so it catches impersonation even when the company name is real and reputable.
It reads the email behind the email. It checks the sender against the reply-to address, the email security records, look-alike letters in a web address, links and redirects, brand-new contacts, and "open this packet" or "change your password" bait.
It checks the company is who it says it is. Domain age and registration, the known website, a phone number verified on its own, the legal name, and FMCSA authority and history. It never lumps two similar names together just because they look alike.

It watches the freight. Load board poster versus the real authorized broker. Two rate cons on one load. A new dispatcher, driver or truck out of nowhere. A changed pickup or delivery. Broken POD lineage. Double brokering patterns.
It checks the paperwork. Rate cons, carrier packets, BOLs, PODs, W-9s, COIs, invoices, NOAs and ACH change requests. It compares load numbers, rates, parties and destinations across versions, and fingerprints each file so tampering shows.
It guards your right to be paid. It knows which carrier you hired, which one moved the freight and who's billing for it. If the factor or the bank account suddenly changes, or two invoices show up for one load, it wants independent verification before money moves.
It defends your computer. Malware scanning is built in: every PDF, picture and rate con gets checked, whether your driver uploaded it or a broker sent it. It looks for macros, hidden scripts, fake file extensions, bad links and remote-access lures.
Why LFS Shield is free
Our commitment is simple. This isn't about cost, and it isn't about who has the best product. It's about us, Logistical Forwarding Solutions, protecting everyone from what just happened to us.
We're making it free because that's our job, and because we want to. No trial that expires, no hidden fees waiting at the end. Trucking companies, freight brokers, dispatchers, anyone who touches a load: we want every one of you still standing next year.
of active U.S. motor carriers operate 10 or fewer trucks, according to U.S. DOT data cited by the American Trucking Associations (June 2025). · source
That's the majority of this industry, and fraud lands hardest on them. We're not trying to make money off LFS Shield. Our job is to make sure small trucking companies in America live, survive and prosper.

How a check works, step by step
LFS Shield works in three levels, so it's fast on the routine stuff and serious on the dangerous stuff.
- Level 1, routine checks. Every email, load and document gets scripted checks. Quick and cheap.
- Level 2, targeted review. When something looks off, it ties together identity, domain, registration, history and payment, and gives you the reasons.
- Level 3, critical restriction. On a real threat, it preserves the proof, opens a private incident and holds only the affected action until a supervisor releases it. It never stops a moving truck.
- Plain-English answer. Every result is labeled Checked, Review, High, Critical or Human Cleared, with the why, the evidence and a safe next step.
- Proof saved. The original files, fingerprints and a custody timeline go into a private evidence vault.

Where LFS Shield runs
One Shield engine, working everywhere we work.
- Inside LFS. It protects our own freight operations. It's what flagged the eight-day-old fake shipper.
- Inside LFS AOS. It sits next to research, companies, documents, loads, dispatch, communications and payments. It checks a rate con before a human approves the real load.
- Inside Freight Broker Complaint. Cases filed there become evidence and verified risk signals that Shield reads at the moment you make a decision.
- With LFS Compliance. It scans uploaded compliance documents and links for bad files and impersonation.
- With MT. MT runs on LFS Shield and explains every alert in plain words, grounded in the evidence.
LFS Shield is part of the Logistical Forwarding Solutions family of tools, all built to keep the carrier alive.
Why it's called circular
Every scam that hits one carrier makes LFS Shield smarter for every other carrier.
A case filed at Freight Broker Complaint, a bad load caught in LFS AOS, a poisoned file in a compliance upload: each becomes a de-identified lesson. LFS Shield learns it, MT explains it, Freight University teaches it, and LFS AOS acts on it.
"One attack seen. Everyone protected. That's the circle."
— Michael Thomas, Founder
It's also fair. LFS Shield separates an allegation from evidence, removes duplicate complaint floods, allows appeals and a right of reply, and lets old signals expire. No automatic "scammer" labels. No blacklist.
The fraud is real and it's growing. The American Trucking Associations reports that strategic cargo theft, which leans on deception and borrowed identities, has risen:
